The Contents page is written in English, and there is a Japanese/English Glossary of philatelic terms, however a good reading knowledge of the Japanese is required, and the specialized notes and tables are incomprehensible to the non-Japanese reader.;;; As it is, a basic stamp can be identified fairly easily, but even with an appropriate English volume beside me I found it difficult to understand some of the more specialised listings.

However, that said, this volume deals in great detail with the issues mentioned in its title. The Definitives are divided into their various serious and the Commemoratives, National Pak series, New Years stamps are separate.; The Prefecture issues have thir own section. The BCOF issues of 1946-7 and the 1948 Election stamps are at the end of the stamps section.

About 80pp deal with the postal stationery of the period. In all a 600pp A5 size paperback, black and white illustrations throughout, and a marginal thumb guide to the sections.
